Amidst rows of towering structures, a window of unexpected surprises emerges, paving the way for consciousness to tread towards freedom. In the gaze of this new era, sensory clutter and noise are filtered out, allowing imagination and creativity to reignite beyond the window's confines.
Objectifying Gaze
"When the glass projects my reflection onto the scenery, is it the landscape or the window?" Chung-ping WANG skillfully employs photographic techniques and mounting to evoke a bodily experience of viewing. His images not only capture a momentary perspective but also awaken the physical experience of observation. The relationships between photo and image, image and painting, and the aura clinging to objects, are like a shuttlecock in Chung-ping Wang's work, constantly moving back and forth, dialectically explaining each other. The light and pure scenery before us prompts existential questions, much like those that arise during everyday moments of rest or grooming.
Noontime Garden
A slow sense of time is like the layers of growth rings in wood, the indentations carved by dripping water, or the cracks formed on a concrete wall over an unknown period. Yang WANG removes the fabric from his paintings, highlighting the fine grains of the wood itself. A layer of translucent paint flows down like a stream, capturing a fleeting moment of nature within a small frame. Painting is Yang Wang's contemporary daily office. Through meditative contemplation, flowers and leaves grow along the wood grain, creating a noontime garden where time seems out of place.
Eternal Daylight’s Enchanted Wonderland
From the window, potted plants, bouquets, and street trees push aside buildings and traffic, transforming into an urban forest marvel. Pei-ching CHUEH’s meticulous labor leaves behind intricate patterns akin to woven textures. Her detailed brushstrokes create corridors of light and shadow, capturing the neon hidden throughout daily life. This scenery, diffused in daylight, bursts into our view, offering a glimpse of an enchanted wonderland within the city.
Windows are Everywhere
Yu-wen CHIEN sensitively depicts landscapes, guided by memory and emotion, recreating visual experiences beyond the window. The most vivid memories occur in daily windows, where she explores the scenery and colors within them. By opening the seams of these scenes, she leads the viewer's gaze through the flat surface, inviting them to journey through the landscape.
