Every limit is a point of becoming.
IN|FINITE explores a space where material and perception converge—where the edge of form becomes the threshold of transformation.
Qu Qianmei’s paintings arise from a quiet study of inner structure. She grinds raw minerals and layers them with lacquer, letting gravity, time, and atmosphere shape the surface. The resulting flows and cracks are not accidents, but the record of matter in motion—pigment settling like thought, lacquer shifting like feeling. These works are not depictions of nature; they allow nature to reveal itself through process. Abstraction here becomes presence, not style. In silence, her surfaces echo landscapes both ancient and inward, pulsing with a quiet cosmic rhythm.
Shih Li-Jen’s sculptures are acts of distillation. Using animal forms—primarily rhinos and horses—he condenses force, memory, and spirit into refined silhouettes. Forged in metal and ceramic, his figures appear still, yet seem to hold movement in suspension. The hardness of steel and the softness of clay find balance, shaping forms that radiate strength and warmth. These are not illustrations—they are vessels of intention, carrying the weight of culture, vitality, and reverence.
Though distinct in approach, the two artists share a common pursuit: to touch what endures beyond matter. One turns inward, letting substance reveal hidden order; the other outward, shaping form into the image of will. Their works stand in quiet dialogue—like two horizons reflecting each other—extending across space, time, and thought.
The exhibition title itself marks a dual tension. The vertical bar “|” suggests boundary, but also passage. The Chinese character “弜” evokes a bow drawn in tension—readiness, direction, release. Together, they frame not just a visual exhibition, but a site of attention: where time, form, and meaning remain in motion.
These works do not ask to be solved. They ask to be held. In that pause—in looking without reaching—something opens. And it is there, in stillness, that infinite meaning begins to unfold.
