The surfaces of Jeong Jin-Yong’s works are richly textured, yet never merely decorative. Gold powder and glass beads introduce a shifting radiance that changes with light and movement. Rather than embellishment, this luminosity becomes a structure of looking—one that makes time and space perceptible on the surface of the painting.
Many of his compositions unfold in stratified bands. Through repeated painting, covering, and partial erasure, forms become suspended between appearance and disappearance. This blur does not diminish the image; rather, it shifts painting away from direct representation and toward mood, atmosphere, and interior experience.
The deja vu his paintings evoke does not arise from literal depiction alone, but from a deeper psychological recognition. Urban sites, monuments, and vestiges appear like fragments recalled from memory. Between one layer and the next, time accumulates—allowing outer reality and inner perception to coexist within the same image.
